Masthead comes with four ready-made page templates: about, contact, faq and size-guide. Each one is a page layout with its sections already in place and sample text to replace. You create the page in your Shopify admin, choose the template, and then edit the sections in the theme editor.
Create a page and assign a template
The steps are the same for all four templates.
- In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Pages and click Add page.
- Give the page a title, for example About, Contact, FAQ or Size guide.
- In the Template list on the page, choose the template: about, contact, faq or size-guide.
- Save the page, and make sure it is set to visible.
- Add the page to a menu under Content > Menus, so customers can find it. The footer menu is the usual place.
Then edit what the page shows:
- In the theme editor, open the page selector at the top and choose Pages, then the template's name.
- Select a section in the left sidebar to change its text, images and settings.
- Save.
Template missing from the list? The Template list shows the templates of your published theme. If Masthead is not published yet, publish it first, or assign the template after you publish. A page that uses Default page shows only its title and the content you typed in your Shopify admin.
A template is shared by every page that uses it. The text you edit in the theme editor belongs to the template, not to one page. For a second page with the same layout but different content, create another template: in the page selector, choose Pages > Create template and base it on the one you want to copy.
About
A brand story page, built from sections you already know from the home page. It does not use the content typed into the page in your Shopify admin; everything is edited in the theme editor.
| Section | What to put there |
|---|---|
| Image banner | A wide photo with the page's heading and one line about the brand. |
| Rich text | Your opening statement: who you are and what you make. |
| Image with text, twice | Two chapters of the story, such as how the pieces are made and who makes them. |
| Testimonials | A few quotes from customers or the press. |
| Newsletter | An email signup to close the page. |
Remove, reorder or add sections as you like. The banner needs an image of your own to look finished.
Contact
The contact page has three parts:
- The page's title and any content you typed into the page in your Shopify admin.
- Contact info: your address, email, phone number, opening hours and social media icons, with the contact form beside them.
- Map: your address, a directions link and a Google map that loads when a customer selects Show map.
To set it up:
- Open the template in the theme editor and select Contact info.
- Select each block and replace the sample details with your own. Remove the blocks you don't need.
- Select Map and type your real address in Address. The map needs it: with no address, the section is hidden. If customers cannot visit you, remove the section.
- Send yourself a message through the form, to check where it arrives. Messages go to your store's sender email, set under Settings > Notifications.
The template comes with a sample address. Replace it before you publish, or customers will get directions to the wrong place.
FAQ
The FAQ page shows the page's title, then a Collapsible content section set up with the FAQ preset: sample questions sorted into three groups, Shipping, Returns and Sizing, and a "Still have questions?" call to action under them.
- Open the template in the theme editor and select Collapsible content.
- Select each Collapsible row and replace the sample question and answer with your own.
- Rename, add or remove Group heading blocks to match your topics. Every row belongs to the group heading above it, so drag rows under the right one.
- Under Contact call to action, type a Button label and choose your contact page in Button link.
The button under the questions is hidden until it has both a label and a link. The template leaves the link empty, because your contact page does not exist yet when the theme is installed.
The same preset can be added to any other page: click Add section and choose FAQ. The section holds up to 50 blocks, group headings included.
Size guide
The size guide page shows the page's title, then two Size chart sections with sample measurements: one for tops and one for bottoms.
Fill in the chart rows
- Open the template in the theme editor and select the first Size chart section. Change its Heading to the kind of product it covers.
- Select Column labels and type your column names, separated by commas. The first is the size. For example:
Size, Chest, Waist, Hips. - Select each Row and type that size's values in Values, separated by commas, in the same order as the labels. For example:
S, 86 to 90, 68 to 72, 92 to 96. - Click Add block and choose Row for each further size.
- Do the same for the second chart, or remove it if you need only one.
Each row needs as many values as there are column labels. A chart holds up to 40 blocks.
Link the size guide to the product page
Once the page exists, the product page can open its charts in a drawer.
- In the theme editor, open a product page and select Product information.
- Select the Size chart block. If it is not there, click Add block and choose it, then drag it under the variant picker.
- In Size chart page, choose your size guide page.
- Save, then open a product on your storefront and select the "Size guide" link.
The drawer shows the size charts from that page and leaves out the rest of the page. If a customer's browser has JavaScript turned off, the link opens the size guide page itself. See Product pages for the block's settings.
Tips
- Create the contact page first. The FAQ page's button and your footer menu both link to it.
- Replace every piece of sample text before you publish: the address, the questions and the measurements are placeholders.
- For pages of plain text, such as a privacy notice, use Default page. See Blog and pages.
