Footer

Menu columns, an email signup, social icons, policies, payment icons and the country and language selectors.

The footer closes every page of the store. Its top part is built from blocks, shown as columns: menus, text, an email signup and app blocks. Below the columns sit the country and language selectors, the Follow on Shop button and your social icons, then the copyright line, policy links and payment icons. Your store name can run across the very bottom in large type.

The Footer section.

Where to find it

In the theme editor, the footer is in the Footer group at the bottom of the left sidebar. Select Footer to open its settings. It is shared by every page.

To collect email addresses in the footer, add an Email signup block. Customers who sign up are added to your customer list in Shopify as email subscribers, tagged newsletter.

The footer signup hides itself on any page that already has an email signup section, such as the Newsletter section, so customers only ever see one signup form on a page. If your footer signup seems to be missing on the home page, this is why.

Social icons, policies and payment icons

  • Social icons come from theme settings under Social media. Each profile link you fill in there gets an icon. With no links filled in, no icons are shown.
  • Policy links are your store policies from Settings > Policies in your Shopify admin. Only policies you have written are listed.
  • Payment icons show the payment methods turned on in your store's payment settings.
  • Follow on Shop is Shopify's own button. It only appears when Shop Pay is turned on for your store, and its colors are set by Shopify.

Country and language selectors

The footer can show a country/region selector and a language selector. The country selector lists each country with its currency, and appears when your store sells to more than one country. The language selector appears when your store has more than one published language. Both are managed in your Shopify admin, under Settings > Markets and Settings > Languages.

Tips

  • Two or three menu columns and one text or signup column is a comfortable footer. More than that gets crowded on tablets.
  • Create a short menu just for the footer, for example Help, with links to shipping, returns, sizing and contact.
  • If your store name is long, check how Show large store name looks on a phone, and turn it off if the name no longer reads well.
