Colors, fonts and layout
How do I change the fonts?
In the theme editor, click the Theme settings icon and open Typography. There are three fonts: one for headings, one for body text and an accent font. Click a font to choose another from Shopify's font library, and use Size scale to make all headings or all body text larger or smaller. See Theme settings.
Can I use my own font file?
Not through the theme's settings. The font pickers use Shopify's font library, which covers several hundred typefaces and needs no hosting. Using a font file of your own means editing the theme's code, which is custom work outside what theme support covers. See Custom code.
How do I change the colors of one section?
Select the section and choose another Color scheme. Sections don't have individual color settings; they pick one of your schemes. To get a combination you don't have yet, edit a scheme or add a new one in theme settings under Colors. Every section that uses a scheme changes with it.
How do I remove the "No. 03" numbers above sections?
In theme settings, open Layout and turn off Number sections. The eyebrow text stays; only the number goes. The 01, 02, 03 before product names is a separate setting: Number products in grids, under Product cards.
How do I switch to another preset?
In the theme editor, click the Theme settings icon, then Theme style, select a style and click Change style. This replaces your theme settings, such as colors and fonts, with the preset's. It does not change your home page or your header and footer. Presets explains what to expect.
Header and home page
Why isn't my transparent header showing?
The transparent header only applies when every one of these is true:
- Transparent on home page hero is on in the header's settings.
- You are looking at the home page. Other pages always have the normal header.
- The first section on the home page is an Image banner, a Slideshow or a Cover hero.
- That section has an image or video. In a slideshow, every slide needs one.
- That section's Top spacing is None.
- For an image banner or slideshow, Layout is Text over image and Width is Full width. With Split or the other layouts, the header stays solid.
The most common causes are a section with top spacing, a layout other than text over image, or another section sitting above the hero. See Header.
How do I create a mega menu?
Give a top-level menu item two levels of links beneath it, in Content > Menus, and it opens as a mega menu automatically. To add featured image tiles, add a Mega menu block to the header and type the menu item's name into Top-level menu item name. See Header.
Why does my section show placeholder products or images?
Featured collection, Collection tabs and Editorial product spread show placeholders, on your storefront too, until you choose a collection or product for them. Select the section and choose one, or remove the section. Sections that need an image show a placeholder drawing until you add one.
My email signup is missing from the footer on some pages. Why?
The footer's Email signup block hides itself on pages that already have an email signup section, such as Newsletter, so customers never see two signup forms on one page. On pages without one, the footer signup is shown.
Products and collections
Why are my color swatches showing as text?
An option is shown as swatch circles only when every one of its values has a swatch in Shopify. If one value has no color or image, the whole option is shown as text buttons instead, with a small color dot on the values that have one. Open the product, find the color value that has no swatch and add a color or an image to it.
If no value shows a dot at all, the option is probably plain text and not linked to Shopify's Color category metafield. Product pages explains how to set swatches up.
Picking a color shows the wrong images. How do I fix it?
With Show only selected color's media on, the theme groups a product's images by color from their order: each color's variant image must come first, followed by that color's other images. Reorder the product's media in your Shopify admin, or turn the setting off in the product page's Product information section. See Product pages.
How do I add a size chart?
Create a page with your measurements in Online Store > Pages. Then, on the product template, select the Size chart block and choose that page in Size chart page. A "Size guide" link appears on your product pages and opens the page in a drawer.
Why are no filters showing on my collection pages?
Filters are created in Shopify's free Search & Discovery app, not in the theme. Install the app, open Filters and add the filters you want. They then appear on collection and search pages. See Collection and search.
How do I add my own badge, such as "New"?
Create a product metafield of the type Single line text with the namespace and key custom.badge, then type the badge text on each product that should have one. The steps are in Theme settings.
The Complete the look section isn't showing on my product page. Why?
It is hidden on any product whose look is empty. Check that the product's Complete the look metafield has products in it, that the metafield is a list of products with the namespace and key custom.complete_the_look, and that the section's Product source is From product metafield. Complete the look has the full steps.
Does Masthead support subscriptions?
Yes. Masthead supports Shopify selling plans, which subscription apps use. Once a product has a plan from your subscription app, the purchase options appear with its buy buttons, and the plan is shown in the cart. There is nothing to turn on in the theme.
Languages and markets
How do I translate the theme?
Masthead's own wording, such as "Add to cart" and "Sold out", is written in English. To sell in other languages:
- Add the language in Settings > Languages.
- Install Shopify's free Translate & Adapt app, which translates the theme's wording along with your products, pages and section content, automatically or by hand.
- Publish the language. A language selector then appears in the footer and the mobile menu.
The theme is built for right-to-left languages too: layouts mirror automatically.
How do I change wording like "Add to cart"?
In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store, open the … menu beside Masthead and choose Edit default theme content. Search for the words you want to change, type your own and save. This changes the wording without editing any code, and your changes are kept when you update the theme.
Why can't I see the country or language selector?
Each selector only appears when there is a choice to make. The country selector needs your store to sell to more than one country, in Settings > Markets. The language selector needs more than one published language. Also check that Show country/region selector and Show language selector are on in the footer and header settings.
Apps and code
How do I add an app to my store's pages?
Most apps add themselves in one of two ways, and neither needs code:
- App blocks go inside a section. In the theme editor, click Add block in a section that accepts them and look under Apps. The product information, featured product, cart, footer and all theme-block sections accept app blocks. Apps can also be added as sections of their own with Add section.
- App embeds work across the whole store, for things like chat or pop-ups. Turn them on in the theme editor under App embeds.
If an app asks you to paste a snippet, use a Custom Liquid section or block.
Can I edit the theme's code?
You can, but do it carefully: duplicate the theme first and work on the copy, and keep a note of what you changed. Code changes are not covered by theme support, and they can make updates harder. For anything beyond a small change, hire a Shopify Partner. Custom code explains how to do it safely.
Will I lose my changes when I update the theme?
No. Everything you did in the theme editor is carried over to the new version: settings, pages, sections and app blocks. Code edits are carried over where they don't conflict with the update. The update arrives as a separate copy, so you can check it before you publish. See Updating the theme.
An app I installed broke my layout. What should I do?
Turn the app's embed off in the theme editor under App embeds, or remove its block, and check whether the problem goes away. If it does, contact the app's developer; they can see how their app behaves in your store. We can confirm whether a problem comes from the theme, but we can't fix or change third-party apps.
Support
How do I get help?
Use the support form. Include your store address and, if you can, a screenshot. We reply within 2 business days. Support policy lists what support covers.
Do you offer customization?
Theme support covers setup questions and bugs in the theme. It does not include custom design or code. For changes beyond the theme's settings, we recommend a Shopify Partner from the Shopify Partner Directory.
