A preset is a starting point, not a separate theme. All three presets have the same sections, blocks and settings. What differs is what they start with: the five color schemes, the typefaces, the button and corner shapes, a few product card choices, the header layout and the sections on the home page.
Nothing a preset sets is locked. Every value on this page can be changed afterwards in Theme settings or in the theme editor.
Masthead
The default preset, and the quietest of the three. Warm paper backgrounds, a light serif for headings and square corners throughout. Its home page builds from a full-width image banner through an editorial image grid to a shoppable look.
Color schemes
Each tile shows the scheme's background and text colors. The dots are its accent, button and sale colors.

Broadsheet
The loudest preset. Black, white and red, with condensed uppercase headlines, heavier button outlines and square product images. Its home page opens on a full-screen magazine cover and runs through scrolling text, collection tabs and an editorial product spread.

Almanac
The softest preset. Earth tones, a classic serif, rounded images and pill-shaped buttons, with the section and product numbers turned off. Its home page opens on a split image banner and tells a lookbook story in chapters.

Choose a preset when you install
On the theme's page in the Shopify Theme Store, select the preset you want before you try or buy the theme. The theme is then added to your store with that preset's settings, its home page and its header and footer.
Switch presets later
- In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store and click Edit theme for Masthead.
- Click the Theme settings icon, then click Theme style.
- Select the style you want, then click Change style.
- Click Save.
Switching replaces your theme settings. Colors, typography and the other settings in the table above are set to the new preset's values, including any you changed yourself. To keep your current look as a fallback, duplicate the theme first: in Online Store, open the theme's … menu and choose Duplicate.
Switching in the theme editor changes theme settings only. It does not rebuild your home page or change your header layout, because those belong to your templates and you may have edited them. To get another preset's home page, add its sections yourself in the order listed above, or install a fresh copy of the theme from the Theme Store with that preset selected.
