This page covers the templates outside the shop itself: the blog and its articles, standard pages, the contact page, the page shown for a missing address, the password page and the gift card page. Each is opened from the page selector at the top of the theme editor.
Blog
The blog page lists a blog's articles. Masthead calls it "The journal" by default; change that in the Eyebrow setting. It has two layouts:
- Editorial list: the newest article is shown large, and the others follow as a numbered list, like a magazine's contents page. This is the default.
- Grid: every article as a card of the same size.
Open it with Blogs > Default blog in the page selector.
| Setting | Options | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Eyebrow | Text. | A short label above the heading, such as "New in". With Number sections on in theme settings, the section's number is shown before it. |
| Layout | Grid or Editorial list. Default: Editorial list. | Editorial list shows the newest article large, with the others as a numbered list. Grid shows every article as a card of the same size. |
| Columns on desktop | 2 to 4. Default: 3. | How many articles sit in a row on desktop, with Grid. |
| Articles per page | 4 to 24. Default: 9. | How many articles are shown per page. |

| Show featured image | On or off. Default: on. | Shows each article's featured image. |
| Image ratio | Landscape (4:3), Square (1:1) or Portrait (4:5). Default: Landscape (4:3). | The shape featured images are cropped to. |

| Section spacing | ||
| Top spacing | None, Small, Medium or Large. Default: Small. | The space above the section, as a share of Space between sections in theme settings. None lets the section touch the one above it. |
| Bottom spacing | None, Small, Medium or Large. Default: Large. | The space below the section. None lets it touch the one below. |
Article
An article page shows the featured image, title, date and author, the article itself, its tags, a share button and links to the previous and next articles. Two things are worth knowing:
- Related products. Choose up to four products in Products and they are shown after the article under a heading of your choice. Because the setting is on the template, the same products show on every article that uses it. For different products on different articles, create another article template in the theme editor and assign it to those articles.
- Comments. Comments appear when they are turned on for the blog in your Shopify admin, under the blog's settings. If you choose to moderate them, customers are told their comment is waiting for approval.
Open it with Blog posts > Default blog post in the page selector.
| Setting | Options | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Show featured image | On or off. Default: on. | Shows the article's featured image at the top. |
| Image ratio | Widescreen (16:9) or Adapt to image. Default: Widescreen (16:9). | Widescreen (16:9) crops the featured image to a wide frame. Adapt to image keeps its own shape. |
| Show author | On or off. Default: on. | Shows the article's author. |
| Show tags | On or off. Default: on. | Lists the article's tags. |
| Show share button | On or off. Default: on. | Adds a button for sharing the article's link. |
| Show previous and next articles | On or off. Default: on. | Links to the articles before and after this one in the blog. |
| Related products | ||
| Products | Products, up to 4. | Up to 4 products shown after the article, for example the pieces it talks about. Leave empty to hide. |
| Heading | Text. | The heading above those products. |
| Color scheme | Color scheme. | Which of your color schemes the section uses. Schemes are edited in theme settings under Colors. |
| Section spacing | ||
Pages
Standard pages, such as About, Shipping and Returns, show the page's title and the content you write in your Shopify admin under Online Store > Pages. Like any template, you can add sections below the content: an Image with text, a Collapsible content section for questions, or anything else.
| Setting | Options | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Eyebrow | Text. | A short label above the page title. Optional. |
| Content width | Narrow or Wide. Default: Narrow. | Narrow keeps lines short enough to read comfortably. Wide suits pages with tables, such as a size chart. |
| Color scheme | Color scheme. | Which of your color schemes the section uses. Schemes are edited in theme settings under Colors. |
| Section spacing | ||
| Top spacing | None, Small, Medium or Large. Default: Small. | The space above the section, as a share of Space between sections in theme settings. None lets the section touch the one above it. |
| Bottom spacing | None, Small, Medium or Large. Default: Medium. | The space below the section. None lets it touch the one below. |
Contact page
Masthead includes a contact page template with a contact form already on it. To use it:
- In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Pages and add a page, for example Contact.
- Under Template, choose contact, and save.
- Add the page to your menus.
Contact form covers the form's settings and where messages go.
Page not found (404)
When a visitor follows a broken link, they see a short message and a way back to the store. Choose a Collection and four of its products are shown under the message, which turns a dead end into a place to start. Open it with Others > 404 page in the page selector.
| Setting | Options | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Collection | Collection. | Optional. Shows four products from this collection under the message, so a lost visitor has somewhere to go. |
| Heading | Text. | The heading above those products. |
| Color scheme | Color scheme. | Which of your color schemes the section uses. Schemes are edited in theme settings under Colors. |
| Section spacing | ||
| Top spacing | None, Small, Medium or Large. Default: Medium. | The space above the section, as a share of Space between sections in theme settings. None lets the section touch the one above it. |
| Bottom spacing | None, Small, Medium or Large. Default: Large. | The space below the section. None lets it touch the one below. |
Password page
The password page is what visitors see while your store is protected by a password, before you open or while you are closed. Masthead sets it like a magazine cover: your logo or store name at the top, your message as the headline, an email signup, and a link that reveals the password field for people you have given the password to.
- The message and the password are set in your Shopify admin under Online Store > Preferences, in the password protection section.
- The look is set in the theme editor: open Others > Password in the page selector.
| Setting | Options | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Cover image | Image. | Shown full screen behind the text. Set its focal point to keep the subject in view. |
| Overlay opacity | 0% to 90%. Default: 40%. | Darkens the image so the text stays readable. |
| Eyebrow | Text. | A short label above your message, such as "Opening soon". |
| Show email signup | On or off. Default: on. | Shows an email signup form, so visitors can ask to hear when you open. |
| Color scheme | Color scheme. | Which of your color schemes the section uses. Schemes are edited in theme settings under Colors. |
Recommended cover image: 3000 x 2000 px. It fills the screen and is cropped around its focal point.
Gift card page
When a customer buys a gift card, Shopify emails them, or the recipient they chose, a link to the gift card page. It shows:
- the balance, and the original value once some of it has been spent
- the gift card code, with a button to copy it
- a QR code, for redeeming in person with Shopify POS
- an Add to Apple Wallet button, when Shopify provides a pass
- the expiry date, if the card has one, and a clear message if the card has expired or been disabled
The page prints cleanly, with the buttons left out. It has no settings of its own: it uses your logo from theme settings and the Drawer color scheme from theme settings under Cart. To let customers send a gift card to someone else, see Product pages.
Tips
- Give every article a featured image and an excerpt. The blog page and the Blog posts section both use them.
- Use Wide content width for pages with tables, and Narrow for pages of text.
- Before you remove your store's password, open the password page once on a phone and check your message and image.
