Announcement bar

A slim bar of one or more messages above the header, on every page.

A slim bar above the header for short messages: free shipping thresholds, a new collection, a sale. Each message is a block. With one message the bar is static. With two or more, it shows one at a time, with previous and next buttons.

The Announcement bar section.

Where to find it

The announcement bar is in the Header group at the top of the theme editor's left sidebar, above the header, so it appears on every page. If it has been removed, click Add section inside the Header group and choose Announcement bar. To hide it without losing your messages, use its eye icon.

A bar with no announcements is not shown at all.

Rotating messages

With more than one announcement and Rotate automatically on, the bar moves to the next message every few seconds, as set in Change every. Rotation pauses while a customer hovers over the bar or moves keyboard focus into it, and a pause button lets customers stop it altogether.

With Rotate automatically off, the bar only changes when a customer uses the previous and next buttons.

Section settings

Select the section in the theme editor to see these settings, in this order.

SettingOptionsWhat it does
Color scheme Color scheme. Which of your color schemes the section uses. Schemes are edited in theme settings under Colors.
Rotate automatically On or off. Default: on. Moves through the announcements automatically. Applies when there are two or more.
Change every 3 s to 10 s. Default: 5 s. How long each announcement stays before the next one is shown.

Blocks

This section is built from one kind of block. Click Add block under the section to add one, and drag blocks to reorder them. The section holds up to 5 blocks.

Announcement

One message. Add a link to make the whole message clickable; an arrow is shown after it.

SettingOptionsWhat it does
Text Text. The message. Keep it to one short line so it fits on a phone.
Link Link. Optional. Where the message links to, such as a collection or your shipping policy.

Tips

  • One clear message beats five. Customers rarely wait for a bar to rotate.
  • Give each announcement at least 4 or 5 seconds, so it can be read before it changes.
  • Pick a color scheme that contrasts with the header, so the bar reads as a separate strip.
