Related products shows products that go with the one being viewed, chosen by Shopify's product recommendations. It loads as customers scroll toward it, so it does not slow the top of the product page. When Shopify has no recommendations for a product, the section is not shown.
Where to find it
The default product template already includes Related products, below the product information. It is only available on product pages. If you removed it, open a product template in the theme editor, click Add section and choose Related products.
Choosing what is recommended
Shopify picks related products automatically, from what customers buy together and from similar product details, and its picks improve as your store collects sales. To choose them yourself, install Shopify's free Search & Discovery app and set the related products for each product there.
Section settings
Select the section in the theme editor to see these settings, in this order.
| Setting | Options | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Heading | Text. | The heading above the products. Leave empty to show none. |
| Products to show | 2 to 10. Default: 4. | The most products to show. |
| Columns on desktop | 2 to 5. Default: 4. | How many products sit in a row on desktop. |
| Color scheme | Color scheme. | Which of your color schemes the section uses. Schemes are edited in theme settings under Colors. |
Tips
- Match Products to show to Columns on desktop for one full row.
- A new store has little sales data, so set related products by hand in Search & Discovery for your key products.
- For products to wear together, use Complete the look. Related products are alternatives; a look is an outfit.
